Habitat for Humanity Lakeside ReStores recognized volunteers at a holiday gathering held January 9th at Chissy’s Pub & Grill. Tom Warosh was presented with a plaque by Dan Landgraf, ReStore committee chairman. Warosh was recognized for his volunteer work at the Sheboygan store, service on the restore committee and recent election to the affiliate board of directors. During the past year 7,643 hours were
volunteered to keep the ReStores running in Plymouth and Sheboygan. The most recent fiscal year saw the stores keeping an estimated 425,000 pounds out of area landfills and providing $78,000 in net income for the local Habitat affiliate.
Certificates were presented to those who had volunteered over 25 hours in the past year (December 2008-November 2009): over 800 hours Larry Doolittle and Tom Warosh, 500 hours Charles Mitch, 400 hours Char Goetsch, over 300 hours Bill Kretchmer, Earl Mehre, Vern Nigh, Richard Schultz and Bob Williams, over 200 hours Allen Gross and Ed Zingsheim, over 100 hours Cindy Benning, Bill Conroy, Corey Crabb, Terry Friday, Matt Giesen, Dale Gleesing, Cindy Heimann, Jerry Hilbelink, Joe McGrane, John Peterson, Judy Wehmeyer, Leon Wollersheim those with more than 50 hours in the past year included Tony Berken, Jan Homiston, Ashley Meyer, Bob Savela, Paul Schneider, Karen Schulze, Roger Schulze, Larry TenPas and those with at least 25 hours of volunteer service were Jim Heidner, Dan Landgraf, David Schemerich, and Linda Testrote.
The ReStores have been providing low cost new and used building materials to area residents with the Plymouth location opening in September of 2004 and the Sheboygan store in January of 2007. Donations of materials in good condition are accepted during store hours Thursday through Saturday. Pick up of large or numerous items may be arranged by calling either 892-4175 or 452-4175. The stores serves three purposes: reducing landfill waste by recycling materials, saving area shopper’s dollars on property improvements and providing funds for Habitat for Humanity Lakeside’s efforts to provide low cost affordable housing in Sheboygan and Ozaukee counties. Additional volunteers are always needed to keep the stores running. If you would like to join this group of dedicated volunteers stop at either store to discuss opportunities that would fit your schedule.
